The BMW 3.0CSL is definitely one of the iconic cars in the company’s history. The thing is, that’s the car with which the Motorsport division started making waves so you know it will forever be imprinted in everyone’s mind.
Furthermore, when it was used in various motorsport competitions, the CSL used to be fitted with an extreme wide body kit that earned it the ‘Batmobile’ nickname. It was extreme and it still is, even by today’s standards.

But no matter how hardcore it may seem, this thing still has a huge following that brought us to today’s find on eBay. This is an original 1972 BMW 3.0CSL that was modified by its owner to fit the ‘Batmobile’ description.

Dressed in Golf Yellow paint, it was restored some 8 years ago according to the seller and everything was done with genuine parts from Jaymic, a workshop specialized in older models.

The wide-arch ki and spoilers come from Zaprace and have been modified to fit the car’s body so this isn’t an original restoration job. And you can tell that by looking at the Bimmer.

However, it does look special but the asking price which is between GBP30,000 (€39,000) and GBP50,000 (€65,000) seems a bit steep for a car that isn’t original, even though the seller claims that the modifications he did are actually adding value. On top of that, it's also right-hand drive.

A car as iconic as the 3.0CSL should be kept in its original guise if one wants its value to increase over time. Tuned versions usually lose value because they stray from the original design. Think about the E30 M3 for example.

All the cars tuned with turbochargers and custom body kits end up in the scrap yard while the originals are sold for incredible amounts of money. That’s just one example.

Now, if you really want a CSL in Golf Yellow and like what our man did here (not to mention if you can afford it) by all means, go for it!
