With the new generation of front-wheel-drive cars, BMW will be looking to use the new UKL platform to the max. That means creating all sorts of variants of the cars that are to be produced, to appeal to every taste out there. In this regard, a bigger 2 Series Active Tourer could be already close to production.
It would be only marginally longer, as our spyshots implied earlier this year but it would accommodate 2 more people in the back as long as they’re not bigger than average children. We’re saying that because we’ve seen the results of sticking two extra seats in the back on the new X5 and they didn’t look promising at all.
The rendering at hand was created by Remco Meulendijk or RM Design and shows us how such a car would look like, with an elongated wheelbase, longer rear doors and a possibly taller greenhouse towards the C-Pillar.
Apart from that, the two models should look exactly the same up front and in the back. The interiors will also be similar, with the obvious exception of the rear seats that will probably be modified to allow the extra two occupants to get to their seats.
As for the engine line-up, the same 1.5-liter and 2-liter plants part of the new B family will be used, with outputs between 136 HP and 231 HP for the 225i model, the top of the range version so far. Expect a hybrid plug-in too though, like the one we saw earlier on the Nurburgring.
