BMW 1-Series Coupe Gets M3 V8 Engine in Egypt

While BMW is on its way of ditching the M3’s naturally-aspirated V8 for a tri-tubo L6 powerplant, one of the carmaker’s fans has done the opposite, choosing to fit an E82 1-Series coupe with a V8 borrowed from an M3 rather than buy a twin-turbo L6 1M Coupe.

The feat took place in Egipt, where 1addicts forum member ‘hatembmw” started out with a 120d Coupe, which he “freed” of its turbocharged two-liter diesel, replacing it with a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine from a BMW M3. The vehicle was also fitted with an upgraded suspension, new brakes, as well as a complete 1M exterior pack.

The owner didn’t just wanted 420 instead of 340 hp and natural aspiration instead of forced induction, but also a fast car that he could afford. You see, the sky-high taxes in Egypt meant that the owner would’ve had to pay triple just in custom taxes, compared to what he spent on tuning the 120d Coupe.
