To those outside the drag racing realm, a brawl involving a Porsche 911 Turbo S and a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 might seem ridiculous and yet when we're talking about highly tuned machines, such a fight suddenly starts making sense.
We now want to show you an example of such a drag race, one that sees a 997-generation Neunelfer duking it out with a high-riding SRT8. The brawl was welcomed by the prepped surface of the Maryland International Dragway, which can be found in Buddscreek.
In the Black corner, we have a Jeep that has been taken down the forced induction route. The SUV now packs a supercharger, with the newfound soundtrack of the Grand Cherokee making the whole drag strip shake.
As for the Grey corner, this holds a 911 Turbo S Cabriolet that has also been tuned, even though we're not aware of the exact mods found on the supercar. The Turbo Neunelfer was never among the best-sounding members of the supercar segment, but the example we have here does take the voice of the flat-six powering the beast to an impressive intensity. We could say the Porscha sounded like a missile.as it was chasing the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 down the strip.
The two drivers don't seem to pack the same level of drag strip skill, an aspect that shows in their reaction times. It almost feels like the Zuffenhausen machine driver gives the Jeep guy a head start, but we don't think that was the case.
At least if we judge by the 1,320 feet times delivered by the two speed-friendly vehicles, the Grand Cherokee is far from being in need of an advantage, with the SUV offering staggering performance and, of course, wetting our appetite for the Hellcat-animated Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which is set to land next year.
