It’s kinda funny when you see this type of ‘braincap’ helmet being recalled for safety issues. But WSB Inc. is taking the matter seriously and has issued a recall for certain models made last year.
WSB Inc (WSB/Biker Helmets) is recalling certain WSB777 half helmets in all sizes made between May 1, 2015, and May 2, 2015. According to the recall, the affected units may be missing or have insufficient labeling and may not be strong enough to protect a user in the event of a crash.

As such, these helmets fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.” Missing labeling information reduces the user’s possibility of identifying the helmet in the event of a safety recall.

The recall estimates there might be around 300 such half helmets affected. Whatever the case, WSB/Biker Helmets will notify owners and replace or reimburse them, free of charge. If you have any questions, you can contact WSB customer service at 1-855-322-3733.

Personally, I believe such helmets are only good for riding a bicycle, and everyone owning a proper motorcycle should wear a full face lid. Statistically speaking, 20 % of the times someone crashes on a bike, the chin bar area is the one to get the head impact first. The rest of percentages are distributed around the helmet’s surface, but none is bigger than the one affecting the chin area.

It might look cool to wear just a braincap and a skull bandana up to your nose, but how cool it will look after some bad things happen and you bite the asphalt teeth first?

Sometimes, wearing a full face helmet without a visor can be dangerous too. I recall a clip with two guys having fun in the woods on motocross bikes. One of them loses control and falls, getting a sharp wood stick through his helmet’s visor opening and through his left cheek...
