It's pretty amusing how Bernie Ecclestone, who has long been berated for his non-orthodox ways of handling the Formula 1 business, can pretty much do or say something that attracts public vilifying on a monthly basis.
This week, the Formula 1 supremo told CNN that he backs Vladimir Putin's attitude on gay rights in Russia.
“He hasn't said he doesn't agree (with homosexuality) just that he doesn't want these things publicized to an audience under the age of 18,” said Ecclestone, arguing that the press had misrepresented Putin when the Russian government introduced an anti-gay policy – which among other things prohibits the spreading of so-called “gay propaganda” to minors.
“I completely agree with those sentiments and if you took a world census you'd find 90% of the world agree with it as well.” the British business magnate continued.
After a failed attempt to buy the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife a few months ago, Ecclestone is now back in the news for the above CNN interview and anti-gay remarks, but in April he is scheduled to return once again, as he is due to face trial in Germany over some corrupt payments made over the sale of Formula 1 in 2006.
