Bentley Bentayga Takes on Range Rover in Slow-Paced Comparison

The video is a little unusual for Autocar magazine because it doesn't have that fast pace. Half of it is static and discusses if either of these two can justify the price.

We think that's the wrong way to look at them, as the whole point is to spend as much as possible on a desirable SUV. It's like when I go to the supermarket in winter and buy the most expensive tomatoes because I know the rest taste like cardboard.

Right from the start, the Range Rover is in trouble because the SVAutobiography trim level is a bit fake. The company is asking £148,645, knowing that some people just want the best.

And even though the Bentayga is around, the RR can still boast that it's the best at some things. It's the only one with that trademark high driving position and is a lot more comfortable off-roading.

For the £160,200 being asked, the Bentley Bentayga offers a much better-made interior plus a W12 engine with supercar levels of power. Can you put a price on power and quality? No, but you can on exclusivity. Every footballer has a Range Rover already, but it will take some time before the first thousands of Bentaygas are made.

The funny thing is that I don't really think the off-road capabilities matter that much. A car that costs that much will never see mud, and most Range Rover owners we know wash them every few days.

If we were kings, princes or Arab oil tycoons, we'd ignore both of them and get the less common Mercedes-AMG GLS 63.
