S, Turbo and S Diesel – these three Porsche Macan variants are soon to be joined by a fourth and probably quite controversial model, one which finally seems to have surfaced today. The basic Macan has long been rumored as a crucial piece for the Chinese market and it indeed has a four-cylinder engine.
The Macan S, Macan Turbo and Macan S Diesel all use V6 engines, but the base SUV will get all its cylinders in one row. A 2-liter turbo engine rated at 237 hp from 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm from 1,500 rpm will take care of the basic propulsion, delivering its power through a PDK gearbox.

The exact displacement of the block is 1,984 cubic centimeters, which is the same as on sister model Audi Q5. However, the Audi SUV only makes 225 hp from 4,500 rpm and has the same toque figure.

Despite being mechanically similar, Porsche has found a way to make its SUV faster than the Q5. 0 to 100 km/h supposedly takes just 6.9 seconds, compared to 7.6 seconds on the Audi quattro model with S tronic. And how have they managed so get something that weighs about 1.8 tons to spring about as fast as a hot hatch?

Paultan.org, who scooped the story, says standard trim will include 18-inch alloy wheels, comfort seats with Alcantara trim, a multifunctional steering wheel and a dual-zone climate control system. Average fuel economy will hit 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers (31.3 mpg US). The photos are actually taken from Porsche's Malaysian sub-website, where technical details are also confirmed

Before we form a lynching mob and go after Porsche for diluting the brand with a 2-liter SUV, we have to admit the output and performance is basically the same as on a Macan S Diesel with a V6. In addition, this new German will give the guys making Range Rover Evoques some serious headaches.
