BAE Hybrid Tank Concept Detailed
Their concept is a quicker, quieter and much more fuel efficient alternative to the regular 70-ton variants, used by most of the world’s armed forces. The BAE hybrid tank can accommodate a crew of three, as well as nine additional squad members in the rear of the vehicle. It is packed with sensors, and is able to survey a very wide area around it, so it would be ideal for reconnaissance and squad transportation duties.
Now, the main feature of this vehicle, the one the people behind it are pushing forward is its 20% increase in economy over comparable conventional vehicles. Compared to a conventional tank, its burns less than half the fuel, and while its efficiency rating of 322 l/100km (0.73 mpg) may not sound like much, in the world of armoured vehicles, it is a very good figure.
Its only drawbacks are its comparably high weight, compared to the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, as the hybrid weighs almost twice as much as the conventional alternative, as well as its price of $13-million, which is considerably steeper than the Bradley’s price tag of $3.1-million.
