The Golf GTI is no longer the hottest hatch on the market, as the segment has welcomed competitors that come with a considerably higher amount of power. However, the vehicle that started the hot hatch madness back in the 70s remains one of the best all-rounders, managing to offer a perfect balance between performance and practicality. In addition to that, the 2.0 liter turbocharged engines used by the car is one of the tuners’ favorite targets. Now, we are here to see what an Awe Tuning exhaust can do for your MK6 GTI.

The aftermarket specialist has perfromed multiple test during the development phase. A 3-inch system was dested first, but it was determined that the effort it took to move the large mass of air into the system at lower rpms led to a loss of torque while offering only a limited top end performance gain at the top of the rpm range. This is why the tuner decided to install a 2.5-inch system.

The company allows customers to choose between 3.5-inch round or oval tips that can come in a Polished Silver or Diamond Black finish. The tuner also offers a downpipe section with high flow catalytic converters, but this is only destined for racing vehicles.

The horsepower and torque were increased throughout the rev range. The custom exhaust offers a maximum increase of 4 hp at 5,300 rpm and 28 Nm at 2,400 rpm, while the peak gain brings an extra 3.1 hp.

Here are the highlights of the Awe Tuning Golf GTI MK6 exhaust system:

• Fully mandrel bent tubing
• Available with Round or Oval tips in Polished Silver or Diamond Black Finishes
• Thick .065" wall T304 stainless steel tubing
• Fully lined stainless steel flex joint in downpipe
• Stainless steel internal muffler and resonator construction
