Aussie Police Chief's Car Caught for Speeding
A recent article in The Courier Mail brought to our attention that police officer cars can also be involved in illegal situations. Thus, a car carrying police commissioner Bob Atkinson has been spotted speeding more than 10 km/h over the limit on its way to an Australia Day function in Brisbane. It seems that the vehicle was traveling at 72 km/h in a 60 km/h area but fortunately (for him) it wasn't the commissioner driving.
On the principle “if you take full responsibility of your mistake, then you're half forgiven”, Atkinson admitted at a road safety press conference (ironically) that the car carrying him and his driver was booked for speeding on the Inner-City Bypass.
However, his fellow colleagues were not at all tolerant with this deed and therefore, an embarrassed commissioner apologized on behalf of the driver. He said his driver was mortified and he felt sorry for him.
Yet, apparently there is a reasonable excuse for the situation. Or at least this is what commissioner Atkinson claims. That being said, he said the driver of the car carrying him had told him he thought he was in an 80 km/h zone.
Of course, “this is no excuse and we aren't putting it forward as an excuse - everyone is embarrassed." Certainly mistakes happen all the time and the driver might have not properly known the area he was driving in, but our logical question is: where was commissioner Atkinson all this time?!
