Augusto Farfus Wins FIA WTCC's 100th Race

Following a chaotic win from SEAT Sport's Gabriele Tarquini in Race 1 of the Porto weekend, BMW's Augusto Farfus converted his pole position in Race 2 into his second win of the season and 100th of the FIA WTCC series.

As expected, the racing weekend in Portugal was not incident free, and major crashes started to become part of the game from the early stages of Race 1. A massive incident in the first lap caused no less than 7 drivers to call it a day for the first race. After that, it was Tarquini who managed to hold on to his first place for the remainder of the afternoon, while followed at the chequered flag by Chevrolet's Robert Huff and SEAT's Yvan Muller.

In the late stages of the first race, BMW pulled off some strategic strings and gave Farfus the 8th place overall - converted in pole position for the second race - as the Brazilian got past teammates Jorg Muller and Andy Priaulx for the last point-earning position in the late stages of the race.

During Race 2, Farfus drove a safe race ahead of SEAT's Rickard Rydell throughout the 13 laps scheduled by the Portuguese officials.

After pulling away in the first couple of laps, Farfus was again under pressure from the SEAT driver following a safety car caused by a race incident between Nicola Larini and Tarquini.

Two more caution laps were activated until the chequered flag - the first involving SEAT racer Mehdi Bennani and British driver Tom Boardman, and the second involving Chevrolet's Alain Menu and Franz Engstler's BMW - but Farfus kept his cool and finished the race in 1st place, while followed by reigning champion Yvan Muller and Rydell. In the last couple of laps, Rydell moved over due to the team's orders to allow his teammate - better placed in the overall classification - to score some important points for the championship.

The Top 8 was completed by Jordi Gene, Tiago Monteiro (both SEAT), Robert Huff, Andy Priaulx and Jorg Muller.

In the overall classification, SEAT's Muller leads from teammate Tarquini by 14 points, while Farfus sits one point behind the Italian driver, in 3rd place.
