In a town called Siegen, there’s a tuning company that goes by the name of B&B Automobiltechnik GmbH. From run-of-the-mill Skoda models to Lamborghini exotica, the sky’s the limit for B&B. Still, this unassuming Audi S1 Quattro caught our attention because it is obscenely powerful for its petite stature.
But first, let’s start with a question. Where is that RS1 we’ve been waiting for so long? Oh, an extremely hot A1 isn’t going to happen? That’s too bad, but it’s explainable. An Audi RS1 would overlap with the S3, to be utterly frank. On the upside, where Audi fears to tread, the peeps at B&B Automobiltechnik do not.
For €12,950 on top of the price of the Audi S1 Quattro (€30,150), the German tuner will one-up the supermini-sized car to 380 PS (375 ponies) and 540 Nm (398 lb-ft) of torque sent to all four wheels. In other words, €43,100 will buy you the most capable small Audi around, a B-segment hatch with more oomph than the Audi RS3 and Ford Focus RS. The only production-ready hot hatchback with more power than this pocket rocket is the manic Mercedes-AMG A45 4Matic.
Not only is it more potent than the Audi RS3, but the B&B-tuned Audi S1 Quattro is lighter. Thanks to the advantage in curb weight, the latter of the two hot hatchbacks is able to accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds, on to a top speed of 177 mph (285 km/h). So, how does B&B Automobiltechnik did it?
According to the tuning company, it all starts with a larger turbocharger and a high-performance intercooler. Other highlights include an increase in boost pressure by 0.25 bar, a carbon fiber intake system, sport clutch, racing exhaust system with special downpipes and catalyst, as well as a special oil cooling system.
For customers that don’t need this gargantuan level of performance, B&B Automobiltechnik offers four lesser go-faster treatments for the Audi S1 Quattro, as follows: 286 PS and 425 Nm for €998, 310 PS and 450 Nm for €1,498, 326 PS and 475 Nm for €3,950, as well as 354 PS and 515 Nm for €8,950.
