Audi has racked up quite a number of Nurburgring laps with its mysterious special version of the R8 facelift this year and they’ve recently done it again.
Audi has been Nordschleife-ing two prototypes of the extreme R8 over the past few weeks and we’ve brought you a clip that shows the supercars in action. The video shows an Orange prototype we had seen before, as well as a Black one, which makes due without the oversized wing of the first.
It’s obvious that Audi is working on a new king for the facelifted R8 range. However, we see two possibilities here.
The main rumor flying around on the Internet is that the result will be an R8 GT facelift - we’ll remind you that the R8 GT was a limited edition of the pre-revamp model, with only 333 units being produced.
However, when they introduced the 2013 R8, Audi gifted the range with the R8 V10 Plus, which sort of took over from the GT, but as a large-series model. This leads us to believe that Audi will give us a street-legal version of its R8 GT3 racecar instead.
Previous spyshots have revealed the orange development car you see in the clip wearing a rollcage, among other track-destined goodies. The road-going incarnation of the R8 GT3 should offer up to 600 HP.
