It seems like the rumors that BMW might launch an all-wheel-drive M5 in the future might become reality, especially if we’re to believe the rumors that Franciscus van Meel, the head of Audi’s quattro division will be moving to Munich.
According to Car and Driver’s blog, van Meel was supposed to pick-up a senior position for Audi in China after his replacement took over in January. However, things didn’t go as planned and he is apparently going to join BMW’s management board in the near future.
His place was taken by longtime research and development boss Heinz Hollerwegen, nearly four months ago. Rumors have it that van Meel will help the Motorsport division take the xDrive system even further as well as improve the overall performance of the upcoming cars.
At the moment Audi and BMW declined to comment but such a move wouldn’t be surprising after last year, Audi’s sales chief returned to BMW.
In March 2013, Peter Schwatzenbauer came back to the Munich-based company after rocketing the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer’s sales sky high in his first year of activity there, in 2009. Currently, he’s the head of Production for Rolls-Royce, MINI and BMW Motorrad.
