Before it revealed the all-new Q5 at the Paris Motor Show, the peeps at Audi have beautified the Q3 for the model year 2017. Curiously enough, the range-topping Q3 S line Competition isn’t called that in Her Majesty's United Kingdom, but Black Edition.
That’s a bit baffling considering both models are one and the same car. Other than this weird marketing decision, the Q3 model lineup has been revised for the British market. The range starts with the Q3 SE, which is £26,600 in base specification. At the other end, there’s the £36,945 Q3 Black Edition, which acts as a replacement for yesteryear’s Q3 S line plus. Slated to go on sale this month, the 2017 Audi Q3 is available with four TDI and TFSI engines that offer up to 62.8 mpg (4.5 l/100 km) and CO2 emissions of as little as 117 g/km.

While the Sport (formerly known as the SE) isn’t anything to write home about, the S line Edition is that little more attractive tot the eye. Be that as it may, even the Sport comes with SD card-based satellite navigation, slightly larger front air vents, as well as a body-colored front diffuser.

Higher up the food chain, the S line Edition (formerly known as the S line Navigation) boasts cruise control and Audi Parking System Plus, a diamond-pattern mesh grille, and a horizontal strut on the front end. Based on the old S line plus, the Black Edition differentiates itself from all other Audi Q3 models with gloss black bits and bobs, including the roof rails and tailpipes. Inside this car, the name of the game is piano black.

Under the sheet metal, the 2017 Audi Q3 can be had with a 1.4 TFSI with 150 PS or a 2.0 TFSI with 180 PS that’s matched with quattro all-wheel-drive as standard. The diesel contingent consists of two 2.0 TDI mills, with outputs of 150 PS and 184 PS. The most efficient of the lot is the 2.0 TDI 150 PS in 6-speed manual and front-wheel-drive configuration on the Q3 Sport model.

Audi committed €24 billion for new model development by 2019. An insignificant amount of this extensive program will go into the research & development for the 2018 Audi Q3, which is due to be presented next year.
