The all-new Audi Q7 is already available in Britain with one engine, a 272 PS diesel. But today, the German automaker has announced a cheaper, more frugal model will be introduced, the Q7 ultra 3.0 TDI, equipped with 218 PS of German reasonableness.
The engine is available in both standard SE and sporty S line trim level. It's got the same 3-liter turbodiesel V6 as the 272 PS model, but power has been traded for fuel economy. It's also noticeably cheaper, starting at£ 47,755 OTR instead of the usual €49,475.

Nowadays, you can spend that kind of money on a Kia Sorento, so the Audi Q7 could be considered reasonably priced. Compared to the old Q7, this newer model is a little bit smaller on the outside, though still big enough to offer seven seats.

Will you miss the power? Probably not, since the SUV is still capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. In return for the slight loss of performance, the Q7 rewards you with up to 49.6mpg on the combined cycle and emissions of 148g/km.

Available starting in October 2015, this Q7 with 218 PS is handsomely equipped with 18-inch wheels , upholstered in supple Twin leather in the SE or leather and Alcantara in the S line, navigation and 770 liters of cargo space when all five people are onboard (about 250 with seven people).

Both SE and S line models also feature the latest MMI, incorporating a DAB module and linked to the 10-speaker Audi sound system, electrically operated and heated front seats with four-way electric lumbar support, cruise control, light and rain sensors. You also get the Audi parking system plus with front and rear visual and acoustic guidance, hill descent control and keyless start.

Of course, this being an Audi, the options are going to be tempting. The Q7 can be ordered with adaptive air suspension, the Audi virtual cockpit, which has already made a name for itself on the TT and R8, and Matrix LED headlights. There's even a traffic jam assist system that does all the driving when stuck in traffic slower than 37 miles an hour.
