For April Fools this year, Audi Japan put a rice cooker in the back of an A8. It was funny, but it made a bit of sense since a freshly steamed bowl of rice might be just what the typical CEO wants. Today, they've introduced a special edition tailored to businessmen, and we like it, although it can't make any food.
Limited to only five examples, the limited-run A8 L Chauffeur special edition is going to be about as rare as a presidential limousine.
Distinguishing features include a set of 20-inch alloy wheels featuring an Audi Sport 10Y spoke design and small cosmetic touches. Inside, the A8 is dressed in a Marble Gray leather trim and features adjustable reading light. Between the two individual read seats, there's a bar compartment and cool box mounted. No steamer, but you can't have your rice and eat it!
Power comes from the 435 PS twin-turbo V8 engine that's the most powerful of the regular A8 range. Quattro all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic are standard. Prices start at 16,280,000 yen, equivalent to $132,747.
Also launched in Japan this week was the A8 Sport Edition, which we already discussed for the UK market a week ago. It combines bits from the S8 with the S line body kit and gives you access to two engine, either the 310 PS 3-liter V6 TFSI or its V8 big brother with 435 PS. Standard trim includes matrix LED headlights, matte-titanium 21-inch alloy wheels and a Phantom Black Pearl exterior color.
