Audi is hard at work testing the facelifted variants of the A3 hatchback, among many other prototypes.
The German carmaker’s engineers were spotted testing what looks like the S-Line variant of the Audi A3 facelift in cold weather conditions in Sweden. Our spy photographers remind us that these are the first spyshots of the A3 hatchback in a facelifted variant.
The prototype does not feature a distressing amount of camouflage, so some of the changes expected from the facelift can be easily spotted.
The A3’s headlights and taillights will get a new graphic design, the front bumper receives new air intakes and a different shape, while the rear bumper also has its fair share of modifications. The additional lights on the roof of the car are obviously not intended for the production variant of the A3 facelift. Many prototypes get tested with such elements, so there’s nothing peculiar about these lights.
The biggest change on the Audi A3 that will be brought by the facelift appears to be the hexagonal grille, similar to the one introduced on the current TT. From the side, the vehicle seems unchanged. The rear bumper has a different look in the area around the exhaust, along with the taillights. The trunk opening is slightly changed in the area surrounding the taillights and the license plate holder.
Unfortunately, we have no interior shots of the facelifted A3, but the car is bound to receive some changes there as well. Most likely, Audi’s compact car will receive the brand’s digital instrument cluster as an option and a new infotainment interface. Some interior trim changes and new materials could also be brought to the A3 range.
Audi might introduce more engine options for the A3 and offer updated power plants for its compact car. Since the A3 is already available in a plug-in hybrid variant, the German car is bound to keep this option in the range.
