Atticus 4P Isn't a Joke, Despite All Evidence Pointing Toward That

While some electric startups are having problems with their $1 billion factories, others are content to develop their first prototype inside a garage. After all, isn't that the whole idea of a 'startup'?

This is Atticus Motors, a company ran by Paulo Camasmie. We couldn't trick you into believing Paulo was a designer even if we tried, so we're not going to. That's because the head of Atticus Motors is an engineer by trade, and like all engineers out there these days, he wants to build an electric car.

Well, technically he has already built one. This is Atticus 4P, but the final name will be a lot more resounding than that: it'll be called the Robocar. Right now, the vehicle is nothing more than a frame on wheels with the powertrain installed as well, but you can get an idea of how Paulo envisions his creation from one of the sketches.

The last thing the 4P exudes at this moment is safety, but weirdly enough, it was what convinced Paulo to start building the EV in the first place. His sister was involved in a car crash, so he went into his garage and began working on a safe vehicle that would eventually function autonomously too.

In its current form, the 4P looks like something you could build with parts from the hardware store, and it's obvious he focused on the vehicle's practical side at the expense of aesthetics. And give its boxy shape, there's plenty of room for four while the roof doubles as a paddleboard rack and the rear hides a bike drawer. OK, so the 4P can transport lots of recreational gear. Does that mean it's designed as some sort of transportation device for resorts and other tourist destinations?

Not necessarily. Paulo says he will be able to make the Atticus 4P available by 2020 the latest for a price (before incentives) of $25,000. It has a top speed of 70 mph (112 km/h) and a maximum range of 93 miles (149 km), which, if you ask us, demand a much greater difference than $10,000 from Tesla's Model 3.

Anyway, all these numbers, as well as the price and the release date, are simple promises made by Paulo Camasmie, a guy you've never heard about with nothing more to his name than the Catrike recumbent bikes. Apart from that, all we get is a video showing a few people having moderate fun in an aluminum frame and chassis on four wheels, plus a website. Are you ready to invest in something like this? If so, can I borrow $50,000?
