Since Aston Martin went into business as a limited company in 1913, the British automaker created a bucketload of outlandish offerings. The original Lagonda sedan springs to mind, as does the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet. Now, though, Aston Martin kicks it up a notch with a powerboat. That's right, it’s a powerboat, not a car.
Presented at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show, the so-called Aston Martin AM37 is more than meets the eye. Co-developed by Quintessence Yachts and penned by naval architect Mulder Design and Aston Martin’s design team, the AM37 is a 37-foot (11.27-meter) long day-cruiser with adequate firepower.
The AM37 is available in two configurations: two Mercury-developed diesel engines with 370 horsepower on tap or two Mercury engines that run on high-octane jungle juice and put out 430 horsepower a pop. For those who want to crack the magical figure of 1,000 horsepower, the AM37S boasts twin Mercury units with 520 horsepower each. In the latter’s case, the maximum velocity is rated at 50 knots, translating roughly 57.5 mph or 92.6 km/h).
From a visual standpoint, Aston Martin highlights that its all-new powerboat came to life thanks to experienced craftsmen who worked on million-dollar machines such as the One-77 hypercar and Vulcan track monster. And from the looks of it, AM37 and the more powerful AM37S perfectly reinterpret the core values of the British car manufacturer: power, beauty, and soul.
Katia Bassi, the vice president of Aston Martin Lagonda and managing director of AM Brands, commented: “We are so proud to present the AM37, an exclusive powerboat for the yachting world. With this project Aston Martin, the icon of style and technological innovation, confirms its place as a top luxury brand. The Aston Martin Art of Living is a way of life that captures the very essence of the Aston Martin brand, and AM37 is a fine example of this philosophy." Unfortunately, there's no word on pricing, sorry.
