Aston Martin Lagonda Gets Unceremonious Reveal in Transit

For a car that is will be built in very few numbers with a hand-picked pool of buyers, our first clear look at the 2015 Aston Martin Lagonda is lacking any theatrics or high-resolution imagery that we would have expected. Instead, the newest member to the Aston Martin family was revealed in a series of images as it was flown from the U.K. to Muscati, Oman.
Still in its prototype phase, the reason for its trip was business rather than pleasure as Aston Martin performed some hot-weather testing on the car. The Aston Martin Lagonda will have to perform flawlessly in the hot weather, too, as sales of Aston Martin’s “super saloon” will be limited to customers in the Middle East on an invitation-only basis.

To get the Lagonda from Gaydon to the far reaches of the Arabian Peninsula, Aston Martin looked to Oman Air to ship the car. Based on a press release issued by the airliner, the deal was brokered racing star Ahmad Al Harthy who routinely uses the airline to ship his Aston Martin racecar.

We’re absolutely delighted Aston Martin has selected Oman as the location for the summer heat test of the new Lagonda. It’s an incredibly prestigious development for the country and everyone involved with Oman Air,” said Al Harthy. “There has been a huge amount of effort and hard work undertaken to help make this possible and I am thrilled to have played a role in that. For Muscat to be chosen by Aston Martin for this very important aspect of the new car’s pre-launch testing is a real honor.”

As we saw in the teased images Aston Martin released back in July, the Lagonda is long and body with a styling reminiscent of the previous car wearing this nameplate, which was built from 1976 through 1990. Rather than the sleek lines of the Aston Martin Rapide (or any other current Aston Martin product), the upcoming Lagonda will have a styling that is unique as the car itself.
