Aston Martin DB5 Voted Most Iconic Bond Car
According to a recent poll made by TV channel Dave, the vehicle that best embodies the James Bond overall image, with all that it implies, is the Aston Martin DB5. That shouldn't come as a shocker to any of you, since Aston has been regarded as the quintessential British brand ever since it first was featured in the series.
The car made special appearances in 5 separate movies, including the last one, “Casino Royale” starring Daniel Craig. This, thanks to its revival from the boys over at Gaydon (Aston Martin's headquarters).
Following the Aston Martin on the second position was the Jaguar E Type, a car that many of us thought it should have won this contest. But it's fair enough, it's still a British car, though an aging symbol that has yet to prove itself on today's competitive market.
At number three we have that multi purpose small car, the Mini Cooper. This model too was revamped by BMW to great success recently. The fourth position is occupied by another Aston Martin, a V8 Vantage this time, which served Roger Moore well.
The Mini is the second car to be featured in this top twice, as it comes in at number five. This time it's the Austin Mini. The number six position is occupied by the Rolls Royce Phantom and the seventh by the Lotus Esprit. The Bentley Blower managed to squeezed in at number nine and the number ten position, the last in the poll is occupied by AC/Shelby Cobra.
As you can see, none of the “exotic imports” such as the BMW Z series managed to score a position in the poll, probably because they're not British. Since James bond is British, people must have felt that his car too should be a British make, a symbol of the country.
