We still remember quite vividly how Volkswagen last year revealed a 400 horsepower Golf R concept at a major auto show in China. Extracting that much power from a 2-liter turbo engine seemed insane, but a few months ago, the German automaker revealed a production model may arrive in 2016.
What does that have to do with anything? Well, the Chinese loved the super-Golf that they decided not to wait. A local tuning company called ASPEC took matters into its own hands and at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show unveiled the PPV400 model.

As the name suggests, it's got 400 horsepower, a measly 33% increase over the stock 300 horsepower output. We've seen similar tune-ups from ABT and other German companies specializing in VW Group cars. However, what ASPEC did to the bodywork is unique.

For example, the front end looks a lot like the Lamborghini Reventon, with large hexagonal air vents and bladed ground effects. The hood has also been vented to help the 2-liter turbo breathe.

The usual side skirts and large diameter wheels were also added. The rear has some of the most impressive features, as the diffuser is now made from carbon fiber and integrates four new exhaust tips with accents fabricated from carbon… of course.

The overall look is comparable to that of the Lamborghini Huracan. Is that sacrilege? Not when you consider Volkswagen calls the Vision Gran Turismo concept a "GTI supercar". Clearly, after 40 years of heritage, the world is ready for amazing, non-compromised Golfs.
