The Aprilia RSV4 superbike got unveiled at INTERMOT today, and the beast received both hardware and software upgrades to make it more competitive down the track.
Starting with the mechanical components, the 2017 RSV4 received a new Ohlins NIX forks and Ohlins TTX shock as well as retuned brakes, with discs now measuring 5mm x 330mm, and Brembo M50 monoblock calipers.

The engine gets lighter pistons while the conrod heads got honed to reduce friction. The valve springs are new too, being designed to offer more reliability under heavy load. Optimization work was done to the valve timing to make the burn more efficient.

The exhaust system is new along with the ECU which adds a 300 rpm increase to the rev range. This means Aprilia also got rid of the variable intake ducts which helps with weight reduction, saving around 500 grams.

More weight reduction comes from a new ride-by-wire throttle system that was discarded of unnecessary components, thus saving another 590 grams. The new version of APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) pack also repositions the inertial measurement unit to make the system more accurate.

Speaking of software, the APRC traction control can now be adjusted while riding, without the need to close the throttle. The same thing is available for wheelie control, which can too be adjusted on the run.

The quick shifter now allows clutchless downshifts with an open throttle while a new pitlane limiter and cruise control system found its way onboard. The bike also comes standard with cornering ABS.

The dashboard received a color TFT display as well as an upgraded version of the V4-MP smartphone data logging and corner-by-corner calibration system. The platform is now supporting phone calls.

Visually, the 2017 RSV4 RR comes in two new color schemes (grigio Bucine and nero Ascari) on a base matte gray layer, while the RSV4 comes with redrawn graphics.
