Another Day of Winter Testing for the FWD BMW X1

This has got to be one of the mildest winters in recent European winters… if you overlook all the flooding. There isn't a single spot in Germany where a small SUV can possibly get bogged down, so the test prototypes for the next generation have been sent to the Arctic Circle to find some trouble.

There are the latest photos showing the BMW X1 a it undergoes anther winter test session. It's built on the same UKL1 platform as the new MINI and 2 Series Active Tourer and should debut within next year.

Being the first BMW with front-wheel drive, we're curious what the base model will be called. fDrive? We're guessing that model won't have a name, only the xDrive models earning a distinct identity.

Power should come from a new family of engines, the B series that's also made its debut in the MINI.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
