Yesterday, the German tuner/manufacturer teased us on Facebook with a post that warned us to get ready for an anniversary model that would celebrate 50 years of existence. However, it appears it was all a plan to divert our attention while they bring out a 600 HP monster.
What are we talking about? Well, Alpina just announced that the facelifted B6 Biturbo Gran Coupe model will now have no less than 600 HP and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, more than the most powerful cars put in production today by BMW.

That title doesn’t even go to an M6 model. The most powerful M6/M5 can go up to 575 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) and that’s with the Competition Package. The most powerful Bimmers in mass production these days are the X5 M and X6 M models with 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque so even they pale in comparison.

Furthermore, the B6 Gran Coupe also comes with xDrive and you know what that means, right? Back-breaking acceleration to 100 km/h (62 mph). If the pre-facelift model used to do the sprint in 3.9 seconds the new one does it 0.1 seconds faster at an estimated 3.8 seconds. It’s estimated because they only provided the 0-60 mph time which is set at 3.6 seconds.

The gearbox is an upgraded 8-speed ZF model that can be hooked up to either the xDrive all-wheel drive system or to the regular rear-wheel drive platform.

How did they achieve these numbers? According to Alpina, the company focused on reworking the air intake ducts and the air filters to allow a better flow and a richer supply of oxygen. Furthermore, the fuel supply system also had to be changed in order to keep up. The top speed is now limited to 200 mph (320 km/h).

Being based on the N63B44 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, the engineers hd to upgrade the turbochargers as well, replacing them with specifically-constructed, larger-diameter ones. Oil and water intercoolers make sure everything stays nice and cool. However, the pistons also had to deal with the new parameters so they had to be changed with specific ones from MAHLE to cope with the 10.0:1 compression ratio and the 1.2 bar boost pressure.

As far as exterior changes go, the new model gets the updated headlights of the LCI 6 Series along with the usual Alpina add-ons like a new front spoiler, subtly revised kidney grilles and a new bonnet.

Round the back you’ll notice a new exhaust made of stainless steel completely that is deep but not intrusive. Of course, it has exhaust valves that allow you to switch the car’s tone.

You can order one starting with March and the first deliveries are expected to take place in June. Considering what this car is proposing, it’s worth the wait.
