Alpina is one of the most unspoiled European tuning house, probably because it's not technically a tuner in the first place. These guys get access even before BMW finishes developing the car. So for example, the B5 and D5 should come out any day now.
But this story isn't about that attractive new 5 Series; it's about the 7 Series that set BMW on a brand new path, with all its fancy tech and design. More specifically, we are going to take a look at a brand new B7 flavor, based on what we saw at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.
BMW Abu Dhabi couldn't leave the original design alone and added its own twist. So instead of the blue or black almost every BMW is coated in, this one has been painted (presumably) in Java Green, a color usually associated with the M3, M4, and M6.
The funny thing is that Java Green is similar to a color Audi offers on its hotter models, and the 2017 Alpina B7 xDrive is perfect if you don't want to buy the RS7 or the S8 performance.
What started out as a 750i is now a 608 PS super-saloon with 800 Nm coming from its 4.4-liter V8 as well. Those figures seem rediculous compared to Alpinas of old and they help rocket nearly two tons of Bavarian luxury from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The top speed of 311 km/h (193 mph) should be enough for most people who don't have a deathwish.
The B7 Bi-Turbo also comes with suspension that hunkers down at 140 mph (225 km/h) and the coolest multi-spoke wheels you've ever seen. There's a subtle body kit too, one which adds aggression without borrowing any styling cues from the M cars.
It should be noted that the interior of this B7 is not to our liking. What's the point of having wood on the dash of a car with a digital speedometer and a CFRP cell? It's like putting a big wood box around your curved 4k smart TV. But the trim can always be replaced, while that white leather is just breathtaking.
