Vauxhall has just released full press information on the all-new Corsa VXR hot hatch model. It might look a lot like the previous model, but it could be better value than the Polo GTI or Peugeot 208 GTi.
Because Opel revealed left-hand drive Corsa OPC earlier this year, we already know all about the hottest Vauxhall model. It will pack a 1.6-liter turbo punch with 205 PS and a respectable 280 Nm of torque. That makes it gutsier than any of its competitors, but the performance is about average. 0 to 60 mph is dealt with easily in 6.5 seconds, and a top speed of 143 mph (230 km/h) can be achieved.

What makes the 2015 Corsa VXR interesting is the price. When it goes on sale this May, prices will start at £17,995. A Golf GTI (equipped with 192 PS 1.8 TSI) starts at £18,850, and a MINI Cooper S is almost exactly the same price. The only good hot hatch that's noticeably cheaper is the £17,300 Ford Fiesta ST, but it's also down on power.

The chassis borrows from the older Corsa D models but has been significantly upgraded. Performance goodies include a twin-pipe exhaust system like you used to get with the Nurburgring Edition, hip-hugging performance seats made by Recaro and brakes from Brembo.

The only major option worth considering is the VXR Performance Pack, which adds a Drexler multi-disc differential lock, 18-inch wheels, Michelin tires and a set of 330-millimeter brake discs. It transforms the Corsa into a clubsport track tool. The bad news is that it stickers for £2,400, bringing the Corsa dangerously into Megane RS or Subaru BRZ territory. But hey, you can't win every battle.
