While Citroen has continued with the C4 Picasso and Grand Picasso as MPVs, Peugeot has added another layer of appeal to the 5008 by making it into a crossover.
The second generation model will be available as a 5-seater. However, two extra seats can turn this into a rival for the Skoda Brodiaq 7-seater that's also being presented at the Paris Motor Show.

The design of the 5008 is very similar to that of the 3008. Its stance is vertical and rounded off at the corners, but infused with plenty of Peugeot's trademark creases and protective black plastic.

We have no idea how it drives. However, it looks like a comfortable vehicle that's at home on the high street. Thanks to large chrome wheels and LED lights, the 5008's appearance is modern.

Inside, this crossover is even more practical than its MPV predecessor. We looked closely at the middle row of seats, which has gained about 6 cm of extra legroom. All three seats are independent, can slide forwards, recline and even fold flat with a simple tug. The last two seats are only suitable for small children, but they can be folded flat or removed altogether. The front passenger seat also folds flat to allow items up to 3.2 m long to be stowed, which is even larger than in a most wagons.

The bits that surround the driver are pretty much the same as in the 3008 that blew us away. A 12.3-inch digital dashboard replaces the conventional dials, while the driver-centric console reminds us of the Lexus LFA. As is typical for the French, Peugeot has tried to reinvent the wheel by making it octagonal.

Under the hood, Peugeot proposes a base 1.2-liter turbo engine with 130 horsepower that's available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox or a stick and an auto-only 163 hp version of the 1.6-liter. The diesel range is three-strong, kicking off with the 120 hp version of the 1.6 and followed by meatier 150 and 180 hp 2.0-liter BlueHDI units.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
