The new Dacia Duster is out testing ahead of its yet unscheduled launch (it's expected to land in 2017) and our spy photographers managed to catch it on camera.
There's not that much we know about the new Dacia Duster and these images don't really help a lot. What we can clearly see is a new lower front bumper with a different grille shape and an intercooler slotted behind it.

The new grille gives the car a more stylish look, but we hope this is not a sign of Duster losing its utilitarian nature in favor of a more aesthetics-oriented one. But we're merely being paranoid if we're jumping to conclusions based solely on one feature of the front bumper.

Especially when the rest of the car seems to remain mostly unchanged. The car will probably get new headlights design and maybe new grille ornaments as well, but there doesn't appear to be any radical change in terms of design.

However, based on reports from the German media, the second generation Duster is expected to grow 15 centimeters in length and it should get engines with power ranging from 90 to 120 hp - not much is new, then.

Meanwhile, in Frankfurt

Dacia is launching an upgrade for the Duster at the Frankfurt Motor Show together with a special edition called "Duster Urban Explorer".

The update focuses mostly on new equipment (Media-Nav Evolution and rearview camera) and trim elements (Silicon black and Féderer gray on black, with discreet gray stitching). It also brings a new wheel design (black diamond-effect 16-inch alloys) and a new paint color called Altaï Green, but we'd say it's a yellowish khaki.

As the name suggests, the Duster Urban Explorer is aimed at those people who make the city their prowling grounds. It's basically a Dacia Duster with two packages installed: Baroudeur and Look Packs. The first consists of protective moldings for the lower part of the body and wheel arches plus those new diamond-effect wheels we were talking about.

The second package brings options more suited for an off-road vehicle, with front and rear skid plates, door sills and roof rails plus metal housings for the side mirrors. Apart from these two packages, the Duster Urban Explorer comes with the Media-Nav Evolution system and leather steering wheel.

As you can see, evolution at Dacia happens steadily, but also very slowly. The important thing is their cars get better and better, but it's just as important they remain affordable. Luckily, the new Duster doesn't show any signs of rocking the boat, and it's one of the few cases when that's a good thing.
