The old Audi RS6, with its twin-turbocharged V10 engine and 580 hp, was a real beast, and its driver was able to go as quickly as he desired, on virtually any surface, as long as it was reasonably flat. The same philosophy has been carried over to the all-new RS6, yet it has been made considerably more efficient, courtesy of Audi’s new twin-turbo V8 engine, which may make less power than the V10 fitted to the outgoing car, yet it makes the car quicker.
It is a collection of improbable numbers, as its engine makes 560 hp and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque (between 1,750 rpm and 6,700 rpm), and it gets from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in one tenth under four seconds - this means it is half a second quicker than the old RS6. Top speed, with the optional Dynamic Plus pack fitted is 305 km/h, or 190 mph.

All that performance, in a car which can hold up to 1,680 liters of luggage, and comfortably seat four people, with room to spare. This new model is also longer than the car it replaces, yet it is some 100 kg lighter, as around 20% of its body is made out of aluminium. Another big improvement over the outgoing car is the fuel efficiency, which Audi claims is 40% better - it now uses a claimed 9.8 l/100 km or 24 US mpg.

It gets the customary RS treatment that Audi bestows onto each all its super-hot offerings, which includes a unique body kit, which gives the car a wider, more aggressive stance, which is complimented excellently by the 21-inch rims. Inside, it gets sporty bucket seats, which are, of course, upholstered in leather, as well as real carbon fiber trim pieces, and a Lamborghini-esque flat-bottomed steering wheel to complete the sporty look and feel.

The car has so far been only shown in estate form, yet a saloon/sedan version will also be revealed at a later date - a tactic they applied when they launched the old RS6, as well. The RS6 Avant is set to go on sale in Europe some time next year, with pricing to be announced closer to its actual launch date.
