If you ever thought that your BMW could do with a little more room in the back you’re in for a treat as the latest rumors coming in from Munich claim that the Bavarians will cater to your needs.
Usual whistleblower Scott26 came out today with a spicy bit of information regarding all future X models. Yes, we’re talking about the SUV part of the brand.

According to him, all future models in the range will get long wheelbase versions, from the X1 to the X5. As it turns out, the initial plans were only for the X1 and X3 versions destined for the Chinese market. Later on, the decision was made to offer them on all continents. The smallest car, the X1, will be the first one to come out with the new, elongated chassis.

Front-wheel drive F48 X1 coming in 2015

The X1 will pave the road in more than one way. It will be the company’s first front-wheel drive X model due to the fact that it will enter production in July 2015.

The 7-seater version will be called FAST and stands for Family Activity Sports Tourer. Don’t expect miracles to be worked in the back, however, those seats will be reserved for kids alone and even they might struggle to fit in. Fortunately for the US, the car will reach American shores in xDrive guises alone.

Will the Sport Activity Coupes follow suit?

At the moment, the rumors seems to be focusing on the ‘normal’ SUVs of the range and we’re talking about the X3 and X5 models here. The X3 is supposed to get a new version in 2017 and that’s also when the X2 3-door SAC is supposed to be released. Chances for the coupe-like models to follow suit are slim.

After the X3 is launched, the X5 will also get a long wheelbase version in 2020. That should put the upcoming X7 in a bit of a different league because of sizing strategies.

Most think that the X7 will be just an elongated X5 but the truth of the matter is that BMW said over and over again that will not be the case. Furthermore, this seems to coincide with what we learned today because if the LWB X5 becomes reality, there will be too little to differentiate it from the new range-topping X model.
