As we told you earlier this week, the update to Android 11 seems to do more harm than good in the case of some Android Auto users.
More specifically, some 2021 Ford F-150 owners claim that using their devices to power Android Auto wirelessly no longer works correctly, as the detection doesn't happen anymore after installing the update to Android 11.
But now it looks like the whole thing is becoming more widespread and most 2021 Ford F-150 models seem to be affected. Several readers confirmed the problem exists in their car too, and now someone on Google’s forums and claiming to be working at a Ford dealership says the connectivity glitch is experienced in every single new F-150 in their fleets with phones updated to Android 11.
In most cases, everything worked just fine before the update, so it’s pretty clear the connectivity problem comes with the latest operating system version.
“I work at a Ford dealership and am experiencing your exact issue on every F-150 I pair my Pixel 3 to. If I uninstall all updates to Android Auto before pairing my phone the vehicle screen prompt comes up again to allow wireless transfer, but then the app forces me to update and then doesn't work. Plugging in to USB cycles the phone to repeatedly restart. Before the update it worked flawlessly in every truck I paired to,” the alleged Ford dealership employee explains.
Of course, running CarPlay wirelessly with an iPhone in the same F-150 works flawlessly.
Google is already investigating the problem, but an ETA as to when a fix could land is not yet available. In the meantime, Ford has remained completely tight-lipped on the whole thing, so at this point, users are all alone in their attempt to resolve the problem.
In other words, if Android Auto is an essential feature for your driving experience and you’re about to install Android 11 on your smartphone, you might want to wait a little bit more to do it.
