We all love hypercars and the astounding levels of performance they bring but at what cost? And we’re not talking about the money here. According to Autoblog.nl, all 499 Ferrari LaFerrari models built are being recalled for a potential fire hazard. The thing is, nothing is official and it will probably never be.
You see, the thing with Ferrari and its cars is that the Italians have a very high reputation to uphold and even if they mess up, the chances of admitting a mistake are very slim, let alone one that could have your car burned to a crisp in a matter of minutes.

All we have to rely on right now are rumors but the guys from Autoblog are pretty adamant about their story. Pics of disassembled LaFerraris have started to surface online and it’s not the usual bumper of door taken off here but more than half the car.

To add fuel to the fire, Ferrari is indeed recalling the cars but they claim it’s for a completely different reason, something to do with regular maintenance but get this: it has something to do with the fuel tank.

According to various reports, the tanks are being resprayed with a special non-conducting coating which tips the balance further towards the report from the Dutch publication.

The biggest problem is that Ferrari doesn’t allow anyone to talk about this issue and that includes dealers, service teams and even customers. The Italians are known for weird practices such as forbidding you to buy another one of their cars if you don’t stick to what they recommend, like in this case, keeping your mouth shut about the issue.

Either way, I for one would definitely be really pissed if my million dollar car was being recalled and disassembled in such a way for a mistake they didn’t catch in development.

UPDATE: According to Autocar, Ferrari told them that they are just 'upgrading' the fuel tanks of all cars delivered so far and that there is no need to worry as no fire hazard has been reported. It all sounds very fishy but until proven otherwise, we will have to take the manufacturer's word for it.
