The young Photoshop wizard behind Indav Design has rendered the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Codenamed Tipo 949 D-SUV, the compact-size Alfa Romeo Stelvio will borrow most of its innards from the Giulia sedan. Hence the artist’s impression.
As some of you might have already noticed, Indav Design started his renderings from two press photographs of the Giulia, then jacked up the suspension, added the black plastic cladding around the wheel arches, a skid plate, and worked his magic on the rear three quarters of the car. If you squint your eyes a little, the rendered Stelvio does remind of the Maserati Levante, especially the sloping roofline.

Slated to be presented late in 2016, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio will start production early in 2017 and will compete against the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. Tough competition, alright, but the Stelvio will undoubtedly sell like hot cakes because it has that certain Italianness an Audi, BMW or Benz cannot offer. For those car nuts who look beyond the badge, the Stelvio has another ace up its sleeve.

Of course, I’m referring to the oily bits shared with the Giulia sedan. From the plebeian turbo diesels to the turbocharged petrols and the Ferrari-grade 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 of the Quadrifoglio, the Stelvio will be available with a lot of engine options to suit all potential customers.

The three-pointed is expected to drop a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 under the hood of the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GLC 63, a fire-breathing lump that develops up to 510 PS (503 horsepower) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio will respond to the GLC 63 with a similar amount of ponies, but less torque.

More specifically, 600 Nm (440 lb-ft) of oomph. I’m not concerned about the deficit, though, especially if you consider that the handling of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio is expected to make up for this torque handicap. On an ending note, don't forget that the Giulia Quadrifoglio is the fastest four-door sedan on the Nurburing.
