Alfa Romeo's Giulietta Receives New Diesel Engine

Alfa Romeo has just introduced a new diesel engine, the 2.0 JTDM-2, that completes the range for the beautiful Giulietta hatchback. As the Italians view this to be a very important addition, as a result the unit is already available for order this week.

Available in Progression and Distinctive trim levels, the 140 hp JTDM Giulietta will set you back between EUR 24,000 and EUR25,700 respectively ($32,500 to $35,250). Alfa is planning an open house event on the weekend of November 27th, in order to showcase the new engine. The customers that order the car until December will also receive a discount that will drop the price to that of the 1.6 JTDM 105 hp.

The 2.0 JTDM 140 CV-2 comes with Alfa’s patented MultiJet system that is in its second generation. Maximum torque for the powerplant will be around 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) at 1750 rpm. The Italian engineers have managed to lower CO2 emissions to just 119 grams per kilometer and consumption on the combined cycle to 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers (52 mpg). Top speed will be 205 km/h (127 mph), with the car reaching 100 (62 mph) in 9 seconds flat.

Thanks to such low emissions, the engine is Euro 5 certified. Another noteworthy achievement is the fact that the Giulietta only needs to be serviced every 35,000 km (21,700 miles). The new Giulietta will benefit from a number of new cosmetic tweaks, including 17-inch wheels with turbine design with 225/45 tires, mirror satin caps, skirts, and aluminum inserts. Also available will be the Blue & Me-TomTom Navigator pack. The model’s flowing lines take inspiration from Alfa’s 8C sportscar built in collaboration with Maserati.
