With just a few weeks left until the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Alfa Romeo has unveiled the IED-designed Gloria four-door concept.
This sleek prototype is the result of twenty Master in Transportation Design students from the European Design Institute (IED) in Turin, Italy, in collaboration with the Alfa Romeo Style Center.
"We asked the students in the Master programme to give us their completely independent interpretation of a new Alfa Romeo saloon," states Lorenzo Ramaciotti, Head of Fiat & Chrysler Design. "During development, we commented, discussed and guided the projects in order to get the most from their spontaneous expressions of creativity. The result was stimulating and marked by professional and creative excellence."
As we can see from the image published by the Italian automaker, the concept carries several historic Alfa Romeo styling cues, the most noticeable being the traditional shield-shaped frond grille. To take it even closer to the brand's historic cars, the designers also added leather strips at the front "to recall the memorable leather straps for the luggage compartments".
The Gloria sports saloon is supposed to be powered by a "state-of-the-art V6 or V8 biturbo engine", but we won't be surprised if no actual powerplant will be mounted under the bonnet.
