Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder Is the Reason Why People Love Alfas

It's a bit funny (read that "frustrating") that the one Alfa-Romeo we can all agree is a beauty isn't really 100 percent an Alfa Romeo. Well, if you haven't been paying attention to the latest developments regarding Italy's most beloved non-luxury brand, then this might come as a surprise.
The Disco Volante Spyder isn't built by Sergio Marchionne's company, but by a firm called Carozzeria Touring Superleggera. They do require an Alfa Romeo 8C Spider to get going, and that's where the first hurdle towards owning one of these beauties presents itself: there were just 500 of them ever made. Well, that's OK, at least around 250 or so - assuming not all of them will want to turn their cars into this blue masterpiece - will roam the streets, which is enough to give us hope of spotting one at one point.

Well, that's wishful thinking. In fact, Carozzeria Touring Superleggera announced that only seven will be made, so consider yourself lucky even for viewing this video. The car was present at this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este where, let's be honest, it's hard to make an impression given the sort of vehicles present there. And the sort of people walking beside them.

However, watch this video and you will definitely feel sorry for that guy driving a silver Ferrari Testarossa Spider that followed the Disco Volante (which, by the way, means "flying saucer") - there were no eyes left for him. That's what happens when you get too close to a car that about as rare as they come without being a one-off.

The video shows the car in great detail, both inside and out. The mandatory start up and revs are there as well, so you also get to hear the 4.7-liter V8 do its thing. The exhaust sound is a bit refrained, but that somehow manages to make it even more enticing - just like a classy woman is always more appealing when she's not completely naked. Not sure that was the best comparison in the world, but this is an Italian car we're talking about, so I'm sure they would agree.
