Automotive producers are showing more and more interest for the sports car market and now after the Toyobaru buzz has settle down a bit, it’s time for Alfa Romeo to take center stage.
It seems that the company’s 4C sports car is set to be brought to the world as a prototype during the middle of 2012 and enter the market in its final form in 2013, as autocar writes. Fiat engineering chief Mauro Pierallini told the aforementioned source that the vehicle will come with a price of around EUR45,000.
For the money, you’ll be introduced to a “less is more” technical world, as the vehicle will be a lightweight development - it’s expected to tip the scales at just 900 kg (1,984 lbs). The vehicle should be powered by the carmaker’s direct-injected, turbocharged 1,750 cc four-cylinder unit (the engine is a delight, as we found out during our Giulietta QV test drive).
This will be placed on a tub-mounted aluminum frame that will also support the running gear, while the body panels will be made from sheet-moulded composites. The executive explained that Alfa has plane an overall production (the length of the 4C’s life cycle hasn’t been announced) of 18,000 units.
