A Tribute to the Original BMW M5, the Sleeper with Ferrari Power

Today we’re spoiled. We’re spoiled by the comfort, performance and figures of our cars and that’s not just a statement I’m making but the reality of our daily lives. Just consider what new cars brought to the table not too long ago and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

Nowadays, even a Kia or a Hyundai will offer cars that are so good, you’ll be struggling really hard to find something wrong with them. I’m not talking only about the mechanical parts, but even the fit and finish and the materials used inside the cabin are on such a high level, ‘premium’ manufacturers struggle to keep their noses ahead.

Yes, it has gotten that good for us. And yet, we’re still complaining, looking, striving to find perfection in every car we drive. Well, perfection is such a complicated concept that we really have to think long and hard about what it means.

For some people, it’s ultimate luxury, for others is epic driving dynamics while some are looking for the perfect price/performance ration. All we know is that this man found perfection in a car that is 26 years old.

Randy bought his E28 M5 back in 1989 and it was the first one in the San Diego area. What attracted him to it the most was the fact that it didn’t draw too much attention to itself. And yet, he had more horsepower under the bonnet than contemporary Ferraris. That’s right, in a sedan that looked like ‘a fridge on wheels’.

Over the years, he put 400,000 miles (640,000 km) on the car’s odometer and yet he still enjoys driving it daily. You’d think that one would get bored of a car after so many miles and so many years but somehow, our man loves his daily driver so much, he just can’t get enough of it. But don’t take our word for it, check out what he has to say in the video below.
