92 Percent of European Lexus Are Hybrids

If you live in Europe, you can do this little test anytime – hop in your car or bike and go Lexus hunting. If you manage to spot 100 of them, there are high chances that 92 are hybrids.

A percentage that is way higher than in America for example, where hybrids are also well received since the Toyota Prius was introduced.

The reason is pretty simple and is a win-win situation for both consumers and the automaker. Europe’s market is highly regulated by tax penalties, incentives and a bigger attention on CO2 emissions, so when people want to go for a premium vehicle, they will also look for the one that consumes and emits less. Not to mention taxes applied for driving in the middle of the city, which hybrid owners can avoid.

Adding the fact that Lexus is aware of these factors and there are some European countries where its most powerful model in range sold is also a hybrid (for exaplme the Lexus IS 300h instead the IS 350), and you can see why you will mostly find hybrid luxury Lexus vehicles in the area.

Moreover, it seems that European customers don’t mind spending more money on a hybrid Lexus than a standard gasoline-powered one. They prefer to spend a wad of cash at first, which will be then put to good use because of less taxes and fuel consumption.
