850 HP Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe by Brabus Is Tricky to Name but Awesome

We still remember the good ol' days when Mercedes only made a few cars. But now we have to put up with models like the GLE Coupe, which is a BMW X6 rival. What's more, the AMG now goes at the beginning, right next to the Mercedes. Who can understand these crazy Germans?

Adding to the naming confusing is the fact that famed tuning specialist Brabus got hold of this sports activity coupe and played with the engine. They placed gold and carbon fiber all over the engine bay, thus earning the right to put a "Brabus 850" badge on the car.

Still, the outcome is nothing short of spectacular. Even though it weighs as much as a hippo, this machine looks sleek and can power itself to a top speed in excess of 320 km/h (200 mph). That's like Honey Boo Boo's mom winning a marathon.

Of course, adding nearly 300 horsepower to an already well tuned V8 engine is hard. The Brabus kit takes the 5.5-liter twin-turbo and changes nearly everything, increasing the displacement and strapping on a couple of larger turbochargers.

We know it's hard to impress you with numbers like 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft) of torque, so let's express it another way. The average smart fortwo's 1-liter engine only has 91 Nm of torque (67 lb-ft), so the GLE has the equivalent of nearly 16 little cars stuffed under its bonnet.

While cornering might still be problematic, acceleration is comparable to a Ferrari F430. After reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in only 3.8 seconds, the 850 hp monster won't stop to accept your surrender.

Looking at this awesome new German "truck" in person at the Brabus stand in Frankfurt, we realized that it's going to be an attention magnet once it reaches the streets. The lower portion of the front bumper is made of carbon fiber, which contrasts with the white paint. Almost every panel uses this high-contrast paint combination to attract attention.

Side skirts and a rear diffuser are also thrown in for good measure while the oversized exhaust pipes bellow out loud noises.
