Underground Racing's X Package isn't for everybody, since it can easily make your supercar go over the 2,000 hp mark. However, when it comes to 71-year-old Bob Helms, this isn't a bug, but a feature.
The not-your-average-grandpa has been attending the Texas Invitational roll racing event for over half a decade now and, during this year's stage, he managed to grab the win. So the five years of upgrades and training behind the wheel have finally paid off.
Bob runs an Underground Racing-massaged Lamborghini Gallardo, with the twin-turbo package allowing the V10 of the beast to deliver north of 2,200 ponies.
And while the Sant'Agata Bolognese supercar might pack all-wheel-drive, when we're talking about four times the factory output, the runs that led to the win required some serious manhandling.
We'll remind you that these cars race on street tires, as is the case here, with the Lambo using Toyo rubber.
The piece of footage below allows us to get a complete view of the adventure, from a small interview with the driver, though the practice runs that saw the boost pressure being gradually increased to the winning moment. Our favorite scenes are the ones captured from inside the car, which show just how extreme such a run can get.
Do you prefer the fresh aura of the Lamborghini Huracan over the all-experienced Gallardo? No Problem.
This is also a perfect occasion to remind you that we can label 2016 as a perfect Lamborghini drag racing year. To be more precise, both the Gallardo and the Huracan are now way past the 2,000 hp border, so this is a great time to race Raging Bulls.
In fact, Underground Racing and Heffner Performance even held an overly spectacular twin-turbo Huracan quarter-mile drag racing battle earlier in the year - here's the current record, in case you missed it.
