679 HP Ferrari M458-T to Debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show

When it was introduced in 2009, the Ferrari 458 Italia became the new yardstick in its segment. A 570 horsepower 4.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 mated to a fast-shifting seven-speed dual clutch tranny and a poised chassis were the elements that made it king then. After 5 years in production, the time has come for a facelift that packs a lot of go-faster surprises.

The 458 Italia nameplate is expected to be replaced by the M458-T moniker. Sounds like the name of a vacuum cleaner, doesn't it? That's not exactly something to float your supercar boat, but under the hood you'll get a whopping 679 horsepower according to an insider report published by CarMagazine. Besides the power figure, the displacement of the mill hasn't been revealed, but it's certain that a twin-turbo setup will be adopted.

That translates to the second modern Ferrari after the California T to adopt turbocharging technologies. Internally known under the 142M codename, the facelifted model is sure to develop more torque than the 458 Italia. If the transmission will be enhanced as well, we expect a significant drop in 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration, which the outgoing Ferrari 458 Italia can do in a blistering 3.6 seconds.

Turbocharging also means an improved fuel economy and CO2 emissions, but who the hell is interested in that anyway? It's a Ferrari and a Ferrari is meant to be enjoyed on a windy piece of road. The report also tells that significant visual changes are also in store, so expect things like aerodynamic tweaks, more dramatic bumpers, a slight redesign of both the headlights and tail lamps and a lot of LEDs.

As for creature comforts, the upcoming Ferrari M458-T is likely to adopt the Harman Kardon media system with Apple CarPlay support and other goodies that debuted on the California T. A rearview parking camera is also expected to be offered, while more demanding customers will be able to choose from added color combos and leather seat designs.
