Taxis come in all shapes and sizes, but when you come across a cab sign sitting atop a Mercedes-AMG GLE63 Coupe, this deserves your undivided attention.
Such a machine is apparently serving customers in Belgium, as we can see in these two images, which come from Autogespot - we are also assured that this isn't one of those faux taxi signs, such as the one we showed you on a Yellow Porsche Cayman GT4: "This guy has our sense of humor! You can order this taxi for real!"
With 550 hp (make that 557 PS, you metric system aficionados) on tap and a swooping roofline, the Affalterbach-massaged GLE Coupe might not seem like the ideal candidate for the job.
However, we could've been tempted to say the same about the Mercedes-Benz CLA63 AMG taxi we used in Austria a few years ago. Fortunately, though, our ride was nothing short of splendid.
We admit we might have gotten carried away by the soundtrack delivered by the AMG Performance exhaust, as well as by the story of the car. You see, the CLA63 was driven by Sabine, a woman who used to own a 996-generation Porsche 911.
Since the rear-engined coupe didn't fit the public transportation bill, Sabine turned to the more practical AMG (the overall usability of the car is debatable, but this is another story for another time. In case you missed our AMG taxi story, you can find it here.
While we're at it, we'll also remind you that those who attended Le Mans hostilities earlier this summer were treated with a cab much wilder than the ones mentioned above. We're talking about the Lamborghini Gallardo taxi. Yep, a freaking V10-powered cab. Nevertheless, just thinking of the microscopic legroom offered by the Lamborghini Huracan's predecessor makes us reconsider the whole practicality point made above.
