Porsche is testing the next generation of Cayenne SUV, expected to launch as a 2018 model.
The upcoming generation of the Cayenne is in the first stage of development, so the engineers are using a mule based on a modified version of the current generation’s body. The car is expected to receive a new platform, borrowed from the current Audi Q7 and the Bentley Bentayga.

Thanks to the so-called MLB Evo technical platform, the upcoming Cayenne would be lighter than the current generation and should bring improvements in handling and fuel economy.

Naturally, the lower weight will increase the performance of the upcoming Cayenne. Thanks to the new technical platform, the model could drop over 200 pounds (around 100 kg) in weight.

Unlike the current generation, the 2018 Porsche Cayenne will share its platform with a Lamborghini model. Obviously, we are talking about the Urus SUV, which will use the MLB Evo technical solution.

The platform is set to appear in the upcoming Volkswagen Touareg as well. Concerning engines, the Cayenne is set for an evolution of the current engine range, with increased output and torque, along with improved fuel economy.

A quick look at the prototype in the gallery provided to us by our spy photographers reveals a different roof line for the body. The rear window has a new spoiler, and the rear wheel arches are wider and higher than those of the current model. The Cayenne is set to receive a more aggressive stance thanks to these changes.

We expect the upcoming Cayenne to adopt a few design traits from its fellow Porsche models, like the Macan. The biggest SUV in the Porsche lineup could get the wraparound tail-lights of the Macan in a different shape, while the front of the car will be modified.

The interior of the Cayenne is expected to follow that of the upcoming Panamera, scheduled for release later this year. The changes at the interior include fewer buttons, an improved multimedia interface, and loads of leather. Porsche’s SUV might get supplementary driver assistance technologies, and semi-autonomous features are not off the table.
