2016 looks like it's going to be the year of the E-Class for Mercedes-Benz. It started strong by launching the sedan, the T-Modell wagon will follow shortly, and then it'll most likely end with another important model: the Mercedes-AMG E63 sedan.
The E-Class family will continue to expand during next year as well, when the new Coupe is expected, along with the AMG version for the T-Modell. Later on, sometime during the second half of 2017, we should be seeing the E-Class Cabriolet joining the ranks and rounding off what looks to be a very cohesive range of vehicles. The Affalterbach division will still have two more models to prepare (the Coupe and Convertible), but the core models will all have been introduced by the end of 2017.

Strangely enough, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet managed to elude the attention of our spy photographers until now, making its debut via a short video just a few weeks ago. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, we couldn't see too much of it then, so a new set of hi-definition images is more than welcome. Unfortunately, it's still too early to hope for a less camouflaged car, so the one we have here shows the same level of concealment as seen before.

Which basically means that there isn't much to talk about. We can see that it's very similar to the Coupe, but since we're just as clueless about the hardtop as we are about the soft top - despite several extra months of testing for the former - it's not like that information is very useful. The Cabriolet's rear end, viewed from the side, isn't as flowing as the Coupe's, with the trunk lid appearing to be much more differentiated from the roof line.

We can expect the E-Class Cabriolet to feature the same excellent level of sound proofing specific to Mercedes-Benz convertibles, as well as the proprietary technologies such as the AIRSCARF neck-warmer and the AIRCAP wind deflector. The latter, in particular, which debuted on the current E-Class Cabriolet, is a very neat trick that allows the driver to enjoy the open-top experience even when the temperatures outside drop below what would have otherwise been the minimum threshold.

When it comes out in 2017, the Cabriolet will benefit from the full range of available powertrains, including the new modular six-cylinders inline engines and the nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The new E-Class might even be the first of its kind to feature a hybrid propulsion system.
