2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe Makes Spyshot Debut, Ready for Twin-Turbo V8 Bang

We expected the Paris Motor Show to see Mercedes-AMG introducing the proper Affalterbach incarnation of the GLC, namely the 63, but it seems we'll have to wait for the 2017 debut of the V8-animated compact crossover. And since we hate to keep you waiting, we've brought along the first spy photos of the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe.

Given the sloping roofline of the high-riding Merc, the twin-turbo V8 powerplant hidden under the hood of the prototype seems to suit the vehicle perfectly.

The camo on this prototype is enough of a hint on the kind of punch the crossover will deliver. It all starts with the front grille, whose camouflage resembles the one we saw on the Mercedes-AMG GT R back in its testing days. Who knows? Maybe we'll get an uber-aggressive grille that will set this model apart.

Notice how the front apron, despite all its camouflage, comes with a gaping approach, catering to the fresh air needs of the 4.0-liter unit behind it.

And you don't need a trained eye to see the meaty brakes and trademark exhaust tips, which work as the perfect appetite-wetting tool.

Nothing is official, yet, but the engine should arrive in the two states of tuned found on other Affalterbach-massaged models. However, it remains to be seen if we get the output figures delivered by the C63 flavors or if, due to the meatier nature of the crossover, we receive the higher numbers from the new E63 models.

Even so, we'll list the first version, which can be called anything but a worst case scenario: the GLC 63 Coupe should deliver 469 hp (476 PS) and 479 lb-ft of twist, while Autobahn-hungry customers could be treated with the 503 hp (510 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of the GLC 63 S Coupe.

Especially with the optional AMG Performance Exhaust on the list, this crossover will be the kind that can trick many into believing it's actually a sportscar, regardless of whether we get the S version or not.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 Coupe is expected to land in the second half of next year, coming as a 2018 model. And this makes us wonder about Porsche's plans for the Macan...
