Now that McLaren has kicked off deliveries for the insanely exclusive MSO HS, it's time to move our attention over the automaker's more... civilian offerings, namely the 650S replacement. Codenamed P14, the supercar has recently been spotted testing in its home country.
In the image we have here, which comes from AutoExpress, we can see the heavily covered prototype, while the Instagram photo below, which dates back to last month, shows the rear of the supercar.

The P14 will mark the next evolution in the British automaker's design language and we'll remind you that Frank Stephenson, the company's design director, has said the model will "raise eyebrows" by delivering technical solutions that should give other carmakers the "why didn't we think of this before?" feeling.

So far, we can tell you the design details will be sharper, as, for instance, the new LED technology allow Woking designers to deliver incredibly slim headlamps.

More importantly, the side air intakes we've learned to associate with any supercar seem to be gone, with the rumor mill talking about an underbody air intake having replaced these elements.

As for the engine cover and the tail of the ting, expect an extremely aero-complex setup that should take McLaren's already uber-aggressive rear end design to the next level. The taillights will be just as slim as the headlights, while now-traditional elements for the company, such as the high-sitting tailpipes or the active rear wing also acting as an Air Brake will be present.

Until we get to see more of the P14, we've dropped tons of 650S Coupe and Spider photos in the gallery to your right, so you get to stay in comparison-ready shape.

When it comes to the actual name of the car, this is rumored to start with a "7", which should make McLaren's intentions to horsepower-dominate the Ferrari 488 pretty clear.

The market details

The 2018 McLaren P14 will make its debut at next year's Geneva Motor Show and, if you want one, it seems you need to have a special talk with your dealer. According to McLaren Life forum user roundincircles, dealers are currently taking deposits for the upcoming rocket.

"The P14 inches forwards towards reveal and launch. UK Dealers are requesting £10k [$12,000/EUR11,000] deposits, returnable until final spec when a further £20k will be requested," the Woking aficionado states.

Then again, there are supercar buyers out there who are willing to adorn their garages with P14s, but explain the want to wait for the first batch of cars to be released before doing so, thus giving McLaren the time to refine any less-than-smooth edges of the speed demon. Now that's a good problem to have as a car buyer...
